HAMPTON COUNTY, S.C. (Court TV) — The attorney representing the family of Mallory Beach in a wrongful death lawsuit against several parties, including disgraced attorney and convicted killer Alex Murdaugh, said that he will likely not ask him any questions during an upcoming deposition.

Alex Murdaugh was convicted of killing his wife, Maggie, and son, Paul, on their property on June 7, 2021. Prior to his death, Paul had been indicted for charges he was drunk while driving a boat that crashed in 2019, killing his friend, Mallory Beach. Beach’s family filed a wrongful death lawsuit in 2019 against both the Murdaugh family and the convenience store which sold Paul the alcohol.
A judge has ruled that Murdaugh must sit for a deposition in the case, which will take place behind bars because of Murdaugh’s conviction.

But in a statement to Court TV, Beach family attorney Mark Tinsley said that while he will participate in the deposition, he will not be asking Murdaugh any questions.
“I plan on participating in the deposition, but I seriously doubt I’ll ask Alex Murdaugh any questions during that deposition for the sake of educating someone who is as skilled a liar as him. Instead, I’ll wait until trial to ask my questions.”
Additionally, Tinsley said he may not participate in the proceedings in person, preferring to attend virtually.
“As to whether or not I’ll go into the Department of Corrections for the deposition, the answer is most likely not. When you enter prison in these circumstances, any protection you have from a physical threat is left in the parking lot.”
The case is currently scheduled for trial in August.
