CA v. BARDO (1991)

Robert John Bardo, an obsessed fan, is charged with the fatal 1989 shooting of young actress Rebecca Schaeffer. The defense claims Bardo's mental illness is to blame for his actions. Bardo is facing a trial by judge after prosecutors agreed not to pursue the death penalty. Rebecca Schaeffer's murder ultimately led to the first anti-stalking law.
